Now, Jesus, Why Would I Want That? Matthew 5:5

Now, Jesus, Why Would I want THAT? #bloggingontheGO Matthew 5:5 NIV Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. LISTEN NOW!!! GREETINGS!!! BlogFam, I admit that I have struggled with the meaning of this verse. And since this is our space, I feel safe enough to tell you that the very first question that came to my mind was WHY? Why in the world would anybody - meek or proud, humble or arrogant - want to inherit this earth? Why would the Lord make it a point to talk about inheriting the earth when He just talked about the kingdom of God in the previous verse? Why would Jesus make this earth the object of our inheritance? I guess I just thought that was so far beneath what He had already spoken that it did not sit well with me. Friends, why would anyone want to inherit this earth? Jesus, why would I want that? This earth is full of hatred and confusion, arrogance and perversion. There are homeless and hungry men and women, boys and girls all over the earth. There are criminals, gangbangers, drug dealers, and crooked preachers and politicians in this earth. I do not know why Jesus would want anyone to inherit poverty and pollution, illiteracy and incest, promiscuity and prejudice. Why would anyone want to inherit this earth? Besides, can the meek really handle this kind of inheritance? I just did not get it! Why would Jesus say something like that? It just makes no sense. This earth is messed up and I do not know why one who loves us so much would desire for us to inherit this mess..... but then I had to pause and think and pray, BlogFam. Because I believe in His love for all of us, I have been really thinking and praying...meditating on this verse for a few days and I know that what I will share is not all there is but I believe it is helpful. Because of His love for us, I had to believe and I had a deep sense of hope that the earth as we see it and know it and experience it in this reality could not be all that Jesus meant. In other words what is the divine purpose of This Beatitude? Matthew 5:5 NIV Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Now let me stop you right there before you think I am about to give you some deep revelation about the meaning and the practical points of application related to this verse. At this juncture, the best understanding I have is this... Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. This Beatitude is not about the fortune and fame or the horror and shame we so readily identify in the earth. But I believe that it is still related to the Kingdom of God. Our inheritance is most aligned with the favor of GOD that rests upon the lives of those who Love Him and as we are transformed by the love of God within, we meekly, humbly, patiently will reject the ills of the earth that may provoke us or incite anger within us or irritate us with a mind focused to inspire others with Gods love shown through us and thereby, by the power of God, they will say YES to Him. We do not inherit the earth for what the earth has to offer. But we inherit the lost souls of the earth because of what God has to offer through those who are meek. This is probably the one missing key to lessons on evangelism. We do not bully people into believing in God. We do not abuse our authority as servants of the Most High and insult or ridicule people into believing in God. We do not pride-fully punish those whose hearts are far from God by withholding God's love, care, justice, and concern from them. No! We inherit the earth.... we see conversion... we see renewal... we see transformation in the earth as we model for the earth the love and humility of Christ Jesus our Lord. This is our inheritance, the conversion of men and women, boys and girls, into disciples of Jesus Christ. Friends, Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. The meek will pray that the whole earth will come into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. The meek will not be intimidated by the twisted priorities of those in power but will humbly let their light shine as a testimony to those who do not know the way. The meek will not incite others to anger but will genuinely love those who would attempt to do so. The meek will walk in the favor of GOD and with inhabitants of this earth. The meek are able to witness in such a way that the earth will hear their voice and appreciate their wisdom. The meek are open to serving the earth and allowing God to meet the needs of the earth through their service as willing vessels for the sake of the Kingdom. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. I no longer have to wonder WHY. I realize that in order for the Kingdom of God to reign on earth, the representatives of the Kingdom must be different from the picture I had in mind. It's not about the symptoms I named that paint this ugly picture of earth, but its about the souls on the earth in need of redemption so that the symptoms we see will not be. And we must seek the transformation of lives through love. Love is meek and the truth is that we are truly blessed when we love people into a loving relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And one by one we inherit the earth for the Kingdom of God. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. GOD LOVES YOU AND I DO TOO!!! Rushing Through Required Tears... Matthew 5:4

Rushing Through Required Tears #bloggingontheGO Matthew 5:4 NIV 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. GREETINGS! BlogFam, I truly do appreciate the lyrics to the song, YOUR TEARS by Bishop Paul S. Morton.... Your tears are just temporary relief. Your tears are just a release of the pain, sorrow, grief. Your tears are expressions that can't controlled. A little crying out is alright, but after awhile you won't have to cry no more; don't you worry, God's gonna wipe every tear away. Friends, I have been exactly where these lyrics take us! I have cried out tears of relief and release. I have cried out tears of pain, sorrow, grief, and even joy. I have cried in uncontrollable showers of tears that have drenched my face and I have cried gentle streams of unnoticeable tears. I am not ashamed to say I have cried in public and in private, in crowds and all alone. I have cried for so many reasons that I cannot fully explain and in moments that are just between me and God. I am not a stranger to tears. Tears and I are quite familiar with each other. We have grown acquainted and accustomed to each others rhythms though I am still surprised by the presence of tears in my life at certain times. BlogFam, I used to be one of those people that would not cry. I don't think that I saw tears as a sign of weakness, I just felt like crying was not something I needed to do. I felt that tears were not, at that time, necessary expressions for me to have. BUT I am telling you that one day... something changed. No, I am not one of those people who cries over everything; but I do believe that as I grew closer in my relationship with the Lord, my heart softened in ways I did not expect and am often surprised by the tears that have come because the Holy Spirit has moved in me. Friends, I am not at all saying that this is the sign for all believers but I am testifying that my softened heart is a result of my passion for God and the tears I cry sometimes are simply because I am overwhelmed by Gods love for me in its unlimited expressions. Our verse for today: 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. To MOURN is to feel or express sorrow or grief over misfortune, loss or something regretted. In this life you will experience something or maybe you already have experienced how it feels to MOURN. We do not pray for, look forward to, or hope for times to mourn but they will come. Your tears will flow. This is a part of our life.... to feel happy and sad, joy and sorrow, excitement and disappointment. In every life, some rain must fall and even Jesus wept! And I know we do not like to talk about it but I do know that at some point you will have to deal with that over which you have or will mourn. You will have to face the reality of misfortune, loss, and regret. Yet, today, I want to encourage you to know that even in these dark moments, YOU ARE BLESSED. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. YOU ARE BLESSED AND YOU WILL BE COMFORTED. My sisters and brothers, do not get anxious about your tears...or the tears of another. Do not rush through the opportunity to be blessed by their presence. Do not dismiss the unconventional gift of tears flowing in your life. Your tears, especially in times of mourning, are unique moments when the Holy One cares for you in special ways. It is true that only God knows the depth of your pain and God promises to be with you every step of the way! This experience - your mourning and your tears- is a required part of God's plan. Don't rush it! Don't act like you are way pass over it! Don't assume others are weak because of it! But you better believe that God has a plan in the midst of ALL of it! And God's plan is to BLESS and to COMFORT you even through this! Friends, it is OK to rest a while in the comfort of God. God's comfort can come in a countless number of ways so just be OPEN. God will comfort you and God may even use you to comfort someone else with the same comfort you once received. Actually, it is so important that we pass our comfort along. We know how it feels and the relief and the healing comfort yields so we cannot be selfish with our blessings. The same comfort that you have experienced, pass it along to someone else. BlogFam, I am glad to know that the blessings of the Lord are not restricted to days of shining sun and rainbows...but that the blessings of the Lord when the days are dark and filled with rain are just as rewarding. So, rest in Jesus, my Friends and take full advantage of the privilege to be loved by Him in spite of AND because of your tears.... Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the POOR... in Spirit? Matthew 5:3

Blessed are the POOR.... in spirit #bloggingontheGO Matthew 5:3 NIV "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." GREETINGS! BlogFam, In this age where bigger is better, faster is the preference, and what is most popular is supposed to be the best person, place, or thing out there, well, you know and I know that I know that BLESSED ARE THE POOR is not what people want to hear!!!!! You can be honest with yourself and with me, if your pastor did a series on THE CHOICE TO BE POOR, would you buy that CD or DVD series? Maybe? It depends on what kind of POOR he or she was talking about? Really? Please tell me the kind of POOR that you prefer to experience. But before you do that, lets get on the same page regarding the definition of what it means to be POOR. POOR means... having little or no money, goods or other means of support; deficient or lacking in something specified; faulty or inferior; deficient in desirable ingredients, qualities, or the like; excessively lean or emaciated; of an inferior, inadequate, or unsatisfactory kind; lacking in skill, ability, or training; deficient in moral excellence, cowardly, abject, or mean; scanty, meager, or paltry in amount or number; unfortunate or hapless. This is what it means to be POOR! Now tell me who would volunteer to teach this class, preach this sermon, or buy this CD or DVD. Friends, this is the age we live in. We know that there are poor among us but I'm almost 100% sure that I cannot name or identify one person I know who wants to be informed of the status of the poor so that they, too, can intentionally have that kind of mindset or pursue such a lifestyle...including those who are poor! I do strongly believe that we should be doing our best to serve the poor, empower the poor to transform their situation from the inside - out, and correct the systemic challenges that keep the poor, poor. So I am not at all dismissing the reality of their situation, neither am I ignoring all of our connection to it because they are our neighbors. All I am saying is this.... if any of us have the CHOICE to be POOR versus being financially comfortable, and not necessarily even rich, I just do NOT think that any one of us would choose the lifestyle of the POOR (except for a few monks and nuns around the world who believe that poverty is God's call on their life). Now, this is all very interesting and intriguing to me because when I read Jesus opening statement from The Sermon on the Mount, I may have been one of those people who got intellectually stuck with his very first words.... BLESSED ARE THE POOR!!! WAIT A MINUTE! WHAT!?!? Come on BlogFam! Let's just continue to keep it REAL! Because you probably would have given Jesus the side eye as well! BLESSED ARE THE POOR? As hard as I work, as much education as I have, as nice as your car is, as big as your house is, as great as that promotion will be, The Right Reverend, Most High And Holy Jesus is preaching BLESSED ARE THE POOR! That does not make any sense!!! Well, friends, let us ALL, including myself, give Jesus the benefit of our doubt...... for Jesus actually says.... Matthew 5:3 NIV "Blessed are the POOR IN SPIRIT, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." OK. So I admit that at first read, and in light of the definition of the word POOR, reading or hearing the entire verse does not immediately give us hope to dispel the doubt we were giving Jesus the benefit of. I mean, think about it. When is the last time you were advised by anyone to be POOR IN YOUR SPIRIT? If anything, we are all strongly encouraged to be RICH in spirit so we can pray more, give more, read the Bible more, serve more, praise more, love more, and even celebrate God more. More, increase, abundance, and overflow are what we are most accustomed to hearing and teaching and singing and preaching and praying. More not less, and Prosperity not poverty is our desire. BUT JESUS SAYS... Matthew 5:3 NIV "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." In this 21st century, that sounds strange and unappealing and even the Lord knows you can't raise a good offering talking like that!!! BUT THEN AGAIN.... this is Jesus speaking and considering the source, I think this statement deserves another thoughtful consideration. Jesus teaches with the intent to transform our lives and in doing so, Jesus says lots of things that need a second glance. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." OK. My friends, did you see the second part of this verse? "... For theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Wow! Jesus is sharing with us a key to a life and a mindset that rises above our narrow understanding of wealth and prosperity. I am not even referring to the mansion in the sky or the streets paved with gold.... and I do not think Jesus is either. This kingdom... this kingdom of heaven is a state of mind, a state of being that surpasses the laws, economy, the class structure of this land. The kingdom of heaven is acknowledging that God is the Creator and super-ruler of the universe and surrendering to that authority in your own heart. This is why its so easy for us to shut down on the word poor but perk up on the word kingdom. We have been conditioned in ways that keep us bound by prioritizing the structures of this world over, against, and above the word, the will, the way of the Almighty GOD. In THIS verse, Jesus does not condemn the financially rich or poor but He uses the kind of language that will most closely get our attention. Even in the Bible, Jesus knew what we have repeated time and time again.... Money Talks! So Jesus uses money type of language...poor...kingdom... in order to make His point and to ultimately transform our lives. BlogFam, there is one more definition of POOR that I did not mention, which I believe will help us to unlock the meaning of this verse. To be POOR also means to be HUMBLE or MODEST. BLESSED ARE THE HUMBLE or MODEST IN SPIRIT, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. How does that sound to you? Doesn't it sound different? Friends, I believe that the challenge for all of us on today is not to stress and strain to have or possess or take over the kingdom but to realize the blessing of humility. For in our humility, Jesus confirms, that the kingdom of heaven is already ours. Furthermore, the poverty in spirit that Jesus invites us to accept is the poverty that leaves our lives deficient, lacking, and scanty in pride, selfishness, arrogance, self-importance, and inflated ego. Our spirit needs to be poor regarding anything within our hearts and minds that would compete with, contradict, criticize, or confront the Holy Spirit. Lord, forgive us and help us all! In Jesus Name we are those who are.... "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs, ours, is the kingdom of heaven." AMEN. GOD LOVES YOU AND I DO TOO!!! You Are Already BLESSED!!! Matthew 5:1-3

You Are Already BLESSED! #bloggingontheGO. ***PLEASE NOTE that I must choose a NEW podcast provider to record my blogs for you to LISTEN. THANKS for your patience!*** Matthew 5:1-3 GREETINGS! BlogFam, I do realize that the essence of the title of today's blog post is not headline news. It will not be a trending topic on Twitter. It will not even be announced in the church announcements on Sunday. But today I want to tell you that YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED and whether anyone acknowledges, admits, or announces your status as BLESSED does not matter! YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! You are your own headline news. You are your own trending topic. Child of God, You are the DAILY, and not just Sunday, announcement to the church, your family, your neighborhood, your community, and your world that the blessing of the Lord is upon your life! Now, BlogFam, I am clear that you might know this already. You probably feel this already. You may have even acknowledged, admitted, and announced this truth to yourself, just before you read this blog. But I just want you to be clear and convinced that YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! There is nothing more that you can do to be more blessed than you already are. YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! Now you might grow and shift and change and the potential increase that might come upon your life might give you the appearance of being MORE blessed BUT don't get it twisted! The blessing of the Lord has not increased per se, YOU have more than likely surrendered your life more deeply and have been transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you are now doing that which is the most perfect will of God so your whole life is now therefore more aligned with God which then heightens your spiritual awareness to the magnitude of the blessing that was already there!!! BlogFam, YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED!!! This is where we must begin. BLESSED is the first word that Jesus says to open the Sermon on the Mount. BLESSED is the first word in the list of The Beatitudes. BLESSED is what you must know that you already are and is the beginnning of developing Wholesome Habits of Healthy our new series title indicates. YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! Matthew 5:1-3 NIV Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. AND THE VERY FIRST WORD He said: "Blessed..." Friends, I am so very clear that more follows and this verse may not be complete and shared with you today in its entirety but the THOUGHT most definitely is. YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! And the thoughts of God regarding the blessing upon your life are not lacking, dismissive, careless, misguided, faltering, failing, or flawed. YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! YOU are a complete thought, vision, dream, and hope of God. Don't get me wrong! God's plans do not begin or end with you but you are a part of God's plan. AND the very fact that you were created by God and that you are here NOW....wherever you are...YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED. Just because your sight would dictate that your current circumstances are clueless about the blessing of the Lord upon your life. DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! Do not allow the enemy to play tricks with your eyes! For whether or not your circumstances turn around now or later, ALL things will work together for your good anyway because YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! I do believe this is one of those priceless teaching moments in Scripture where you just had to be there! And as grateful as I am for the writers of the text taking the time to pen what they remember about the walls falling at Jericho, the fire from heaven after Elijah's prayer, the visit of the Shepherds and Wise Men to see the Christ child, the feeding of the 5000 men not including women and children who were present , the Holy Ghost's arrival at Pentecost, and the Crucifixion of Jesus at Calvary.... I can only imagine the disciples and all the other men, women, boys and girls of the Bible telling us in heaven, you just had to be there! What you read was good but being there was PRICELESS! And in this priceless moment as recorded by Matthew, when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. Now, BlogFam, you know that there is a reason why I take my time in every blog series. It is so easy to read the text and run right through some very critical and interesting details. Yes, YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED but I do not want you to miss the full realization or manifestation or actualization or maximization of that blessing because YOU choose NOT to go where Jesus is! The text says that Jesus was sitting down on the mountainside. But lets backtrack a few verses.... the end of Matthew 4... Matthew 4:23-25 NIV Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him. AND when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. Jesus was probably tired but was unwilling to send the people away and knowing that time was of the essence, Jesus knew to take advantage of every opportunity to preach about the Kingdom of God. So when His disciples CAME TO HIM, he began to teach them. BlogFam, YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! And so were the disciples and the crowds that followed Jesus. They were and had been in the presence of Jesus, the Son of God, a miraculous healer, an inspiring teacher. They were truly blessed to see, hear, and even touch or be touched by Jesus. They were already blessed yet they still came to where Jesus was. I know you are already blessed BUT are you in the place where Jesus is and where Jesus would have you to be? This is important. It is imperative that you set your heart, mind, body, and soul to be exactly where Jesus is and where He would have YOU to be. That place is YOUR blessed place and the very best place you can be. On that day in Matthew 5, the blessed place was on the mountain with Jesus. Before Jesus opens His mouth to speak in Matthew 5, they were already blessed. They did not necessarily need to hear Jesus declare that truth to them. But because they came to Jesus for more, because they were willing to listen to Jesus, because they were not satisfied with what they had already seen, in His divine wisdom Jesus reminds them and invites them to a life that is totally transformed by the blessing of God that is already upon them. The Beatitudes then become spiritual insight to the physical miracles they had already seen Jesus do. Jesus basically tells them that there is so much more to ME than what you have already experienced and the blessing that has already been declared before this moment only scratches the surface. The potential depth of the transformation of your whole life as a result of your coming to ME and listening to ME and following ME is unimaginable to you and it also carries with it a heightened awareness on your part and of those around you, regardless of their acknowledgement, admission, or their announcement, of the blessing of God upon your life. This is the beginning of developing wholesome habits as a healthy disciple of come and you listen and you follow. You may come and you may hear something from the Lord that you think that you already know... you are blessed. But sit a while, the Lord just might have more to say that will truly reveal the purpose of the blessing that you already have.... And sisters and brothers, I believe this is what we will see as we continue our journey. Again, when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. AND the very first thing he tells them.... YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED! GOD LOVES YOU AND I DO TOO!!! Wholesome Habits of Healthy Disciples - INTRODUCTION Matthew 5:1-12

Wholesome Habits of Healthy Disciples - INTRODUCTION #bloggingontheGO Matthew 5:1-12 Copy and Paste Link to LISTEN NOW... GREETINGS!!! BlogFam, On today we begin a brand new series on the SALVATION and STILETTOS BLOG! And as with all series, I am so excited about where the Lord will take us for as long as the Lord chooses to lead us this way through His word. As most of you know by now, I have been through some major transition in my own life recently (CHECK OUT BLOGS... the Moving On Series, Saying Goodbye post, and A New Day Series). Since that transition , I have often reflected on the changes I must now make in my whole life because of my new position. It is my desire to be a wise steward of everything in my life. This takes DISCIPLINE. DISCIPLINE. DISCIPLINE. I know that this word is not one that we often celebrate, repeat, or incorporate into our lives but DISCIPLINE is a necessary, unavoidable, and often neglected KEY to achieving our destiny. Discipline is defined as... training to act in accordance with rules AND to bring to a state of order and obedience by training and control. Now the root word of DISCIPLINE is DISCIPLE. A DISCIPLE is any follower of Christ, a pupil or adherent to the doctrines of another. BlogFam, this is who we are and this is how we should be regarding our FOLLOWship of Jesus. We are DISCIPLES and as such, we must live well-DISCIPLINED lives. I posted this statement on Facebook and Twitter (@AudraSunshine and @SpiritedConcept) this past weekend... DESTINY DEMANDS DISCIPLINE AND THE DECISION TO LIVE YOUR WHOLE LIFE A DIFFERENT WAY. Friends, the fulfilling of your DESTINY does NOT just happen!!! There are things that you must do, decisions that you must make in order to fully live into Gods DESTINY for your life. This requires DISCIPLINE as a DISCIPLE of Jesus Christ. So, as I am now personally challenged to be more DISCIPLINED in my walk with the Lord, I invite you to do the same. This new series is based on THE BEATITUDES of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. There are so many lists that you can find that are written with the premise in mind that if you follow "this" list, you will be successful, effective, organized, rich, interviewed, hired, promoted, admitted, graduated, selected, respected and not rejected. So, what better way to achieve ALL of the above than to FOLLOW the list of our Lord! This list is unlike any other list I have found and I believe that as we prayerfully enrich our lives with the discipline necessary to obey the instructions of Jesus as He articulates them in The Beatitudes, we will truly be BLESSED! We will develop the wholesome habits of healthy disciples that will certainly change our lives and propel us into our DESTINY!!! Now will you invite at least ONE person to join us as we walk verse by verse through The Beatitudes? Matthew 5:1-12 NIV Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. He said: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. BlogFam, Let the journey begin...
