“Father, Into thy hands, I commit my spirit”
(Luke 23:46)

We thank you that you have chosen to give us life. We thank you that we can commit our lives to
your care. We thank you that you hold
our lives and this whole world in the palm of your hands.
We confess that we have tried to take our lives in our
own hands. We confess that we have made decisions
about our lives that have ignored the places your hands would guide us. |

God who is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End –
We thank you that there is nothing that happens in our
lives that escapes you. You know our end
and you know our beginning. You know
every season and transition. You know
every thought and every move. Awesome
God, You know it all and You make our life complete.
And now as we reflect on the finished work of Christ at
Calvary, we say THANK YOU for completing your work on the cross. |

“I thirst”

God of Living Water –
We come to you on today, acknowledging that we have tried
to quench the thirsts of our lives in so many ways. We have sought to quench our thirsts with
people, money, things, accomplishments, recognition, and so much more. We admit that when we do not seek you first,
we remain thirsty.
Lord, we confess that you are the one who can quench
every thirst we have – especially the thirsts of our soul. We confess that our personal priorities have at
times risen above the concerns of Christ and in pursuing our personal
priorities we become parched. |

“My God, Why have You forsaken me?”

Transcendent and Intimate God – God who is so far beyond us and yet so very near to us
-
We come to you in this moment with mixed feelings. In this life, we have moments of sunshine and
moments of rain but there are times when the sun and the rain come at the same
time. And when the Lord cries out to you
from the cross, feeling forgotten and forsaken, yet purposeful and prepared, we
have a glimpse of his acquaintance with the reality of our human
condition. |

“Behold your son, Behold your mother”

Concerned and Comforting God,
On today, we look to you to dry our tears, those that
wet our face and those that drench our heart.
Life has a way of expressing itself through our tears and we thank you
for bottling every tear, for wiping them all away. And we look forward to the day where we will
not have to cry anymore! But until that
day, we look to you to care for us in the midst of our tears.
We thank you for showing us that you are concerned with
our well-being by making provisions for your mother while you hung from the
cross. |
