Bad News Prophets - Luke 8:49

Luke 8:49 NIV

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.

I know that you already know I like to keep it real in this space and today is no different. So, let me just say this: There are people who LOVE to be the bearers of bad news... TO YOU. I know that you might not suspect that this would be the case but, I can tell you from personal experience, it is.

There are some people who love to rain on your parade and then are secretly hoping that you get caught in the rain without an umbrella. There are people who want to be the first to deliver the news to you that something you have been working on will not work out... something you have been hoping for has been halted...something that you have been expecting has exited the realm of possibility or probability.

There are people who LOVE to be the bearers of bad news...TO YOU. There are people who want to tell you so badly that THIS situation is dead and you do not need to trouble the Teacher/Jesus about THAT anymore. And you may not pick up on their satisfaction to deliver such statements but just WATCH and PRAY, LOOK and LISTEN because at this time or at some point in time, you will know that they LOVE to see you sweat profusely, get moving frantically, jitter nervously, stutter uncontrollably, quiet down impatiently, and stare hopelessly into your future.

It really is sad but this is the truth. There are people who LOVE to be the bearers of bad news..TO YOU. They will not offer solutions or alternative options or even prayer. They want you to feel like Jairus must have felt when the bad news prophet came to him, while Jesus was on his way to Jairus' house.

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”

Friends, I know that you might be wondering why I would take this angle based on our verse for today. It does not appear that this bad news prophet who came to tell Jairus the truth about his daughter's condition as he understood it had any ill will. He was only speaking the truth, stating the facts, giving a report, conveying a message that someone more than likely sent him to share.

"Your daughter is dead."

Wow! Now talk about bad news! This was Jairus' only daughter and she was only 12 years old. He had come to Jesus asking him to come to his house. And Jesus was on his way to Jairus' house. Based on the text, he only stopped to heal one woman along the way and I am sure that Jairus wanted to rush Jesus along because of the urgency of his personal situation but Jesus stopped to respond to the faith of this woman who had touched the hem of his garment to be made whole. And now, his daughter is dead.

Now, it is one thing to tell me things are not looking good or to tell me that there is nothing more that anyone can do but when I am standing in the presence of the Lord or in the house of the Lord or in the company of those who are seeking the Lord, DO NOT EVER TELL ME TO STOP TROUBLING or TRUSTING THE LORD!

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother JESUS anymore.

My Sisters and Brothers, this is your BIGGEST clue to discerning a Bad News Prophet:
  •  If anyone ever tells you to STOP praying, praising, or pursuing the Lord OR
  • If anyone ever tells you to STOP sacrificing your time, your talent, or your treasure for Kingdom purposes OR
  • If anyone tells you to STOP expecting the Lord to come to your house or to enter into your personal situation simply because someone else got their breakthrough ahead of yours THEN you just might have a Bad News Prophet in your company.

BlogFam, the Bad News Prophets will intentionally make sure you know that you do not need to bother anyone in the highest authority about your situation and will offer no room for possibility or creating alternative options in their converation with you. They will give you the bad news that your situation is dead and almost immediately following they will, in essence, tell you to GIVE UP! "Don't bother the teacher anymore."

BUT, do NOT fixate your ears or all of your energy on the negativity that they really want to see you get stuck in! This is a critical moment and your FIRST response MUST be to REMEMBER the One who is on your side - Jesus - and REDIRECT you attention to the words He has to say to you.  JESUS has the last word in EVERY situation or circumstance and the news that you may have just heard is another opportunity for the glory of the Lord to be revealed.

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.” Hearing this, JESUS said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.

BlogFam, this is our GOOD NEWS:
Don't be Afraid. Just Believe. YOU will be healed.

God Loves You and I Do Too!!!
