12-12-12, What Will YOU Do? - Judges 6:24-32

12-12-12, What Will YOU Do?
Judges 6:24-32
BlogFam,Today is December 12, 2012.  It is 12-12-12.  Now, I am not one to play on numbers or anything of that sort, but I do think there are moments when we can get a message from the Lord even in numbers.  I do not claim to have the prophetic word for today as it relates to this specific date.  While I have seen all kinds of Facebook and Twitter posts on the significance of today’s date, I am not jumping on the bandwagon of every so called “prophetic” claim that has been shared.  However, I would challenge any and all of the 12-12-12 prophets to declare their commitment to risk their very life in order to follow through on their prophetic declaration.  I wonder how prophetic they might be if their very life hung in the balance.  I wonder if they would use this day to recommit themselves to a level of commitment that might cause them to risk their lives in obedience to the Lord God.
Actually, that is a challenge to ALL of us.  On this 12-12-12, where do YOU stand in your commitment to the Lord? And how much are YOU really willing to risk in order to be found FAITHFUL?
So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
That same night the Lord said to him, “Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one seven years old. Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. Then build a proper kind of altar to the Lord your God on the top of this height. Using the wood of the Asherah pole that you cut down, offer the second bull as a burnt offering.”
This was a risky move by God’s warrior!  How many of you have made a deliberate decision to tear down the altars or gods of the people you love and respect because you knew that their reverence for those altars or gods was NOT in line with the will of the Almighty God?  We get so excited about such shallow things in the Kingdom of God and we let so much go because we do not want to offend.  But in this place in the text, Gideon is told to TEAR DOWN YOUR FATHER’S ALTAR!
You might be thinking.  Oh, Delesslyn, that would be easy because that altar was NOT of God anyway!  Maybe. Maybe not.  But in this twenty-first century, tell me what altars or gods masked in traditions and attitudes, consumerism and prejudices have you worshiped or ignored because they belonged to YOUR father or mother, pastor or ministry leader, or anyone else you love and respect?
On this 12-12-12, I dare you to take inventory of your own personal lives and ask the Lord to show you what altars or gods you need to cut down and destroy so that you can build a proper kind of altar to the Lord Your God.  BlogFam, what will YOU do?
So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord told him.But because he was afraid of his family and the townspeople, he did it at night rather than in the daytime.
In the morning when the people of the town got up, there wasBaal’s altar, demolished, with the Asherah pole beside it cut down and the second bull sacrificed on the newly built altar!
They asked each other, “Who did this?”
When they carefully investigated, they were told, “Gideon son of Joash did it.”
It will not always be an easy decision to cut down the long standing ideas, positions, thought processes espoused by you or those you associate with in your family, church, or community.  The truth is that the consequences of your decision to take a stand for the Lord God may NOT be seen as prophetic or noteworthy.  You may be afraid to do the right thing.  You may hide and do the right thing.  You may get some of your closest friends and fellow warriors to accompany you as you do the right thing.  But I pray that in the end you WILL do the right thing and that you will be obedient to the instructions of the Lord for your life and in the daytime or at night, I pray that you will seek to please the Lord.
And if your life is threatened…
The people of the town demanded of Joash, “Bring out your son. He must die, because he has broken down Baal’s altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.”
I pray that you will have an advocate who will stand up on your behalf.
But Joash replied to the hostile crowd around him, “Are you going to plead Baal’s cause? Are you trying to save him? Whoever fights for him shall be put to death by morning! If Baal really is a god, he can defend himself when someone breaks down his altar.” So because Gideon broke down Baal’s altar, they gave him the name Jerub-Baal that day, saying, “Let Baal contend withhim.”
BlogFam, today is the perfect day to reflect upon your own life and the depth of your commitment to the Lord our God.  The numbers are even aligned in your favor, 12-12-12. [LOL!]  What will you do?
I pray that you would stand as a mighty warrior and tear down or cut down anything that is exalted in your life above the God of heaven and earth.  I pray that YOU will be obedient to the Lord’s instructions for your life and in the daytime or at night, seek to please the Lord!  I pray that you would withstand any of the consequences of your righteous thoughts, ideas, words, or actions as a mighty warrior.  And I pray that in the event that you NEED an advocate to speak up on your behalf, I pray that you be reminded of the best advocate heaven has to offer who is seated at the right hand of the Father pleading your case and declaring your victory!
