ONLY IF... Romans 8:9-11

Romans 8:9-11

BlogFam, when you are preparing to move on, there are a few basic, non-negotiable and unavoidable details that you must know in order to have a successful move.  A few of those details include, but are not at all limited to, the time you will move, the date you will move, and the destination of your move.  I know that this sounds so basic but these are such important details that as we prepare to move into our Eighth Day, we cannot take them for granted, especially as we move by faith and in the direction of the Spirit.

The timing of your move is one detail that we so often miss.  And yes, I meant to say TIMING.  Is it your season to be making the kind of moves you have in your heart to do?   Is your move long overdue because for some reason, that does not seem important today, you denied the eviction notice of the Holy Spirit giving you the OK to move on to the next relationship, job, church, house, school, et cetera?  Has the frustration of your current location been growing to the point of dreading your contact with certain people, places, or things and you have prayed for the peace of the Lord that will not come? For why should our God grant you peace in a place that God has not ordained for you to remain in this next season of your journey?  When you are preparing to move, you must be sensitive to the timing of God.  You may not be able to tell the time by the watch on your wrist or the clock on your wall but you must sense the timing of God through prayer, daily reading of the Scripture, conversations with fellow believers, praise and worship, patterns consistent along your journey, and other clues that may not be obvious on the surface but taken together are discernible indications of the timing of your next move.

The moving date is the date that all of our bags and boxes will be packed and then loaded in a car, on a truck, in a van, on a train, in a trailer, or on a plane.  And before you dismiss the significance of setting this date, please let me share something with you. When you do not set a date to move, somebody else will set the date for you and somebody else will proceed to move you out whether you are ready or not, with and without a warning.  I was dating a gentleman some years ago now and things were great in the beginning but along the way, my joy faded and I knew the time was coming for me to move on.  And when the time came, I admit that I did prolong the moment.  I did.  I wanted to be the patient and supportive and loving and caring girlfriend BUT ladies [and gentlemen] at any point that your expectations are not met and your actions or feelings are not reciprocated to your satisfaction – AND you are just dating – it is TIME TO MOVE ON!  I finally set a moving date to move on out of that relationship.  I set a date and on that date, I was done.  Now, he tried to prolong the slow death of what once was, but I had already committed myself to a date to move on and his negotiations after the fact received no sympathy.  I had to set a date, otherwise, I might still remain in a situation where the fountain of love was no longer flowing and the butterflies had long vacated my stomach at the sound of his name and voice.  I had to set a date.  I had to move on.  And I have no regrets.  When it is time to move on, set a firm date, tell someone about your date so that you can be held accountable, and then make sure all of your business is in order for when the date comes.

When it is time for you to move on, you must have a destination in mind.  Where are you going?  Where is the next place you will land?  Where will you park?  At what location will those bags and boxes be delivered?  There are too many of us moving on with no vision or goals or dreams or clear address of where you will be next.  I know that this detail can be a little tricky, but not really because there are VERY FEW people that the Spirit will instruct to walk by faith to a place that only the Spirit will show you just as the Spirit did with Abraham.  That is not a common testimony.  For most of us, we will know or at least have a very strong clue about the next place we will go. For many of us, the Spirit KNOWS that we need exactitude in our move such that our next step is in and of itself the leap of faith we need to go to a place that the Lord has already shown us.  So, move on.  You already know where it is you need to be, when you need to go, how you will get there, who and what you need to take. OR just be still and wait for whomever or whatever it is you are waiting on and the rest of us will go ahead!

In our scripture for today, we are challenged to face a few ONLY IF truth statements that we must reconcile with-IN ourselves IF we are going to move on in the timing, on the date, and toward the destination of the Spirit.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, IF indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And IF anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But IF Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And IF the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

BlogFam, is your decision or even your contemplation of a move in line with the Spirit?  Are you relying upon the Spirit of God that lives inside of you to confirm the timing, the date, and the destination of your move?  Are you moving on because you know that the Spirit of God will give life and life abundantly as a result of this move?  Will this move reflect the righteousness of God?  In what ways do you believe that this move will raise your faith and your witness to another level for the sake of the Kingdom of God?  I know that you probably did not think that all of these questions mattered but when we choose to surrender our lives to God, EVERYTHING matters. And everything matters to you ONLY IF you desire to live in harmony with the Spirit of God.

Now, if you happen to think that it does not take all of this, well, take moving on  - in the Spirit - off of your agenda.  You are more than welcome to stay just right where you are BUT to my sistas and brothas who belong to Christ in every way, every day, and not just on Sunday, well, let us follow the Spirit into new life at the right time, on the best date, and to a higher place ONLY IF…
