How Foolish YOU Are!!! Luke 24:25-27

How Foolish YOU Are!!!
Luke 24:25-27
He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

BlogFam, There are only a few times recorded in the Gospels where Jesus appears to lose His composure.  You might recall in Matthew 15 when one mother pesters Him about casting a demon out of her daughter and Jesus says he was not sent to help people like her. He said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” But that was not good enough for that Canaanite woman.
The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.  And then Jesus takes His frustration up a notch and He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” WHOA! Jesus does end up healing her because of her great faith BUT NOT without an insulting tongue-lashing first!
And then in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 11, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”
And NOW in the Gospel of Luke, after His resurrection, Jesus is going off again! He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!”
In Luke 24, Jesus is walking and talking with two men on the road to Emmaus.  His identity has been kept from these men for whatever reason and so He joins the conversation as a stranger who seemingly has no clue about the recent events.  These men begin to share with Him all the drama of the last few days – including their own hope that Jesus was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And they are saddened by the turn of events that His body is not where it was laid after being taken off of the cross; but it is missing and no one has seen Him yet.
Well, these men had no clue that they were talking to Jesus and their conversation did not reflect that they believed the words of Jesus that He would rise again and so Jesus feels compelled to interject his two cents!
He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said
in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
In all of these situations, Jesus has something to say or do that shows the intensity of His passion for His Father’s Kingdom and He expresses his righteous indignation whenever men or women act disrespectfully or have the audacity to ask questions that are beyond the scope of His intended focus or have conversations where those who are speaking are referring to Kingdom matters ignorantly and faithless-ly.
And can you really blame Jesus?  I know we like to think of Jesus as so holy, meek, and mild and Jesus was that.  But that was not all that Jesus was.  His personality could adjust to fit whatever the situation called for; more importantly, Jesus could speak the language of the heart’s of those who were guilty in word or deed.  Jesus had, Jesus has a way of making His point in ways that ALL people can understand.
In our present text, these gentleman have no clue that they are explaining what happened to Jesus, to Jesus, Himself.  I can only imagine that Jesus had so many thoughts in His head.  They were not sharing any new information with Him because He had lived through the experience.  He probably was thinking how accurate they were on the details of their report but what pained Him the most and caused Him to speak was the condition of their faithless hearts.
They told Jesus what they had heard but they also told Him – seemingly unknowingly and buried in their news report was their disappointment, their fears, their hurt that it looked like Jesus was NOT the one for whom they had waited to redeem them.  And Jesus has heard just about all He can stand and He calls out their foolishness! He asks them to think critically about what they have just said and then He gives them a History lesson in order to reveal Himself in a different way to them.
Friends, there are moments along our journey when ALL the signs, clues, evidence will be available and we will even talk about it and place our hope in what we have seen BUT at the end of the day, our FAITH is what truly puts all of the pieces together.  If we neglect to interpret the events of our lives through the eyes of faith, I will just come right out and say it – WE are being FOOLISH!  FOOLISH!  FOOLISH!
My sistas and brothas, PLEASE do NOT be FOOLISH Saints!  PLEASE do NOT be the kinds of believers who put your doubts, your worries, your fears ABOVE your FAITH in God who can make everything plain for us to know, to see, to understand that EVERYTHING that has happened and that is currently happening IS working together for OUR good.  When we refuse to accept that the Word of God is being fulfilled in the universe, when we allow the evil of modern day crucifixions to cloud our judgment/discernment, when we forget that we are living in the last days and there are some things that MUST happen before Jesus returns, we are being FOOLISH! AND the words of our Lord in Luke will ring true - “How foolish – thoughtless – imprudent - faithless you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!”
My friends, I pray that on today you would ask the Lord to help you to see how everything that is happening in your life is working together.  I pray that you would not act or ask questions or have conversations that reflect your foolishness regarding Kingdom matters and when others do so, I pray that you would boldly confront their foolishness in Christ-like ways. I pray that you would be granted holy wisdom to see how God is at work in the midst of it all.  I pray that you would not dismiss the word or work of the Lord God in your life as foolishness but on the contrary, I pray that You would trust God in deeper ways so that by your FAITH, You will accept that HE is the ONE for whom you have been waiting!!!
