Click Logo to LISTEN NOW!!! Greetings! BlogFam, Have you ever heard some news that you just did not believe and you took on the attitude that you had to see IT for yourself? You were unwilling to take whatever was said at face value and so you waited for or you initiated a search for evidence in order to give credence to this claim. I think we have all been there. We have all heard something that caused us to think twice – something that required further investigation – something that needed verification beyond the source of the message. We have all been there. We have all heard some news and asked ourselves – Could THIS really be TRUE? I believe that this is the question Peter asked himself. The women had just shared their personal testimony about their experience at the empty tomb of Jesus and everybody thought it was nonsense. But Peter did not just completely blow these women off. Peter heard what they had to say and then he obviously thought – I have got to go see this for myself! Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. This is really no surprise. It makes sense to me that at least one of the disciples or one of the other followers of Jesus who heard the news from the women would get up and go check! And considering WHAT they were saying, there were not only theological implications for their report but political and social implications for making the claim that Jesus was no longer in the tomb. And Peter, having been the one who loved and denied Jesus, decided to be the one who did. Friends, I think it is wise to seek the confirmation in your life about the words spoken into your life by others. As prudent men and women, we must prayerfully discern and decipher the content that others may share with us about us. One of the ways that we are able to do so is to look for the presence of the Lord in the words they have spoken. Could THIS really be TRUE? The words that we hear from others about our situations that might give us hope and encouragement because they speak of resurrection and new life, well, even those words need a double take. Peter went to do a double take of the tomb. He had to see for himself that Jesus was no longer there and that He could possibly expect to see Jesus in a new way. My sistas and brothas, perhaps you have already received a truthful message from one of God’s representatives in the earth and NOW it is time for you to seek the confirmation of this word. Could THIS really be TRUE? I am not sure what the word of resurrection was for you that will elevate your life in unspeakable and miraculous ways; however, I do pray that if that word is true, that you will receive the confirmation you need to move forward. Peter heard what they had to say. Peter went to the tomb to verify what they had to say. Peter did not rejoice or give God praise, but Peter began wondering to himself what had happened – what was next – what this meant for him and them. Peter did, just as many of us do. We will hear our instruction. We will confirm our instruction. And then we will still wonder. Now, by definition, our wondering can go different ways just as the definition of wonder does. To wonder means to be filled with admiration, amazement, or awe. And to wonder also means to doubt. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. BlogFam, what do you think? Was Peter wondering because he doubted what he had heard and seen? Or was Peter wondering because he was in awe of what he had heard and seen? I am not going to answer that question for you because I invite you to ponder the implications of both directions since both directions run parallel to the ways in which we WONDER about the happenings in our own lives. We hear. We see. We wonder. And so did Peter. Could THIS really be TRUE? My friends, on today, I pray that you would further consider Peter’s response as a model for your own ways of discerning and deciphering what you hear. I pray that you would receive clarity regarding the word of the Lord for your life and that it would be confirmed and settled in your spirit. I pray that your wonder would guide you in holy ways. I pray that you would THANK GOD for the gift of confirmation that God chooses to allow us to receive by faith and that in our efforts to seek confirmation we would not prolong our celebration of the manifestation of God’s promises. I pray that we would see and seek, listen for and learn from resurrection and that we would rejoice that every word our God speaks to and through us will allow us to answer our lead question in the affirmative – Could THIS really be TRUE?
