Matthew 28:1
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

BlogFam, WELCOME to our new series! Please read or listen to yesterday’s post for the introduction to this new series, AFTER HE ROSE.
I want to begin today by asking you a question. Have you ever wondered why Mary and the other Mary went to look at the tomb of a man who said He would rise again?  I know that some of you are wondering why does this question even matter, or you have probably already answered it based on what you have read in the other Gospels in that these women were keeping the tradition of the day and going to put spices on the body.  I am not going to dismiss your answers because they do carry some validity.  However, I invite you to think with me.
Have you ever wondered why Mary and the other Mary went to look at the tomb of a man who said He would rise again? I admit that I, too, have gotten excited in the proceeding verses when the confirmation of their Lord’s resurrected body is given by the angel and our Lord Himself, BUT today I am intrigued by the textual evidence that these women went to look at the tomb of the one who had taught them and prophesied over His own life that He would, indeed rise again. This is intriguing to me because I wonder how many times has the Lord promised us something miraculous, something extraordinary, something so full of hope and peace and in the euphoria of the moment we accept that word of promise and we believe it but a few days after a period of tragedy or turmoil [a few days after Crucifixion], we go right back to the tomb – forgetting that WHATEVER the Lord has promised, IT will come to pass.
Friends, have you ever been BACK TO THE TOMB?  I know that you are excited about what is to come, what shall be, what will come to pass and yet for some reason, you have not fully embraced that God’s word will NOT return void.  I think that the fact that these women went to look at the tomb is typical of how we handle the promises of God in our own lives.  We hear the promise of resurrection.  We get excited about the promise of resurrection.  We say we believe the promise of resurrection.  BUT instead of looking for the resurrection, we go back to the lifeless places, relationships, situations in our lives to pamper them, to make sure they are alright.  We revert back to what makes sense in our minds instead of looking for the fulfillment of the promise of resurrection.
I wonder what was in the minds of these women.  I wonder if they were just not sure about when Jesus resurrection would take place. I wonder if they thought that it might happen in the future so far beyond their imagination that they did not anticipate the resurrection of the Lord’s body in three days.  Friends, I am not sure what their thught process was but what we read here is that they went to look at the tomb.  They did not go to the temple or the river of His baptism or the Upper Room where He had His last supper.  They went to the tomb first.
My sistas and brothas, I have another question.  Where do you go to look for the resurrection in your own life?  Where do you go to look for the promises of our God to be fulfilled?  Where do you look for your prayers to be answered?  Is your first stop at the tomb?  Is your first stop at a place of death and confusion, lifelessness and passivity?
Matthew 28:1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and theother Mary went to look at the tomb.
On today, I invite you to recall the promises of God to you and I invite you to reconsider the places where you look for these promises to be fulfilled.  I invite you to look in the unexpected places that are full of life and positive energy and not in the shadows of death.  Today, I hope that you would believe in the power of the resurrection so much so that you will not have to look for proof that He is risen in the tomb but You will search for places where our Lord’s love, joy, and peace reign. Friends, look for signs of LIFE in places and amongst people filled with LIFE!
I pray that today would be the FIRST day that you anticipate resurrection in strange places and refuse to walk in the direction of death.  I pray that you would BELIEVE that whatever you have been praying for would rise up to bless you and that you would bear witness that YES, our Lord is risen and that same resurrecting power is available to all who believe and all who dare to look for evidence outside of the tomb!
God Loves You and I do too!
