HOME Invasion: Get INTO My Business! - Proverbs 15:22 & 11:14

Home Invasion: Get Into My Business!
15:22 Plans fail for lack of counsel,
but with many advisers they succeed.
11:14 For lack of guidance a nation falls,
but victory is won through many advisers.
BlogFam, Have you ever thought or spoken these words?
“Get out of MY business!”
“This is NONE of your business!”
“Stay out of MY business!”
I know I have thought AND spoken these very words.  We all have things concerning us that we just do not care to discuss at the time with certain people and that is OK.  Everybody does not need to know everything there is to know about you and sometimes even those closest to you may need to take a step back as well.
Why do we say such words?  Why do we at times feel like we do not want certain people involved in our business?  Well, because it is simply OUR business.  And we tend to learn this very early.  Even as a child, I can remember thinking and I may have even spoken these very words. There are just some pieces of information that we own about ourselves that we do not want certain people to know or be involved with and that is OK.
It is OK to have a secret.  It is OK to keep a secret.  It is OK to even share your secret if you feel like you are ready to put your business out there.  In fact, let me share something with all of you. Ok.  Here we go. I LOVE SHOES! I love shoes and the higher, the better.  I love shoes.  I will even buy shoes before I buy clothes.  I have actually been shopping and found certain clothing items I was willing to purchase until I went to the shoe section and due to budgetary restraints, I had to make a choice.  Do I want this cute outfit or another pair of stilettos? Well, I will admit to ALL of you that shoes will win 99.99% of the time! LOL!  I love shoes.  And there it is! You know my secret.
I have put my business out there and now all of you have your own thoughts about what I have just shared.  All of you just formed an opinion about what I just shared.  Some of you thought one thing and some of you thought another, but you ALL thought something, even if it was – So what?  Who cares?
Friends, when we share our business, people form their opinions that we might agree with or that we might disagree with, and we tend to feel judged by their opinions which is why we resort to thinking or saying:
“Get out of MY business!”
“This is NONE of your business!”
“Stay out of MY business!”
I have had the unfortunate experience of someone breaking into my car and attempting to break into my home.  That is not a good feeling.  I was not present either time but I still felt violated and betrayed and in some strange way, I have felt the same way when others have tried to pry into my personal business.  When people attempt to break into a boundary that we have set in our own minds, that is when we think or speak words to keep people out.
Today, while I respect your privacy and I respect that, no matter how old you are, you have business that you care about and issues that you do not care to allow certain people to meddle in, I want us to consider this proverb which challenges us to INVITE people into our personal matters.
15:22  Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
11:14 For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
Friends, in other words, these two verses affirm that there is wisdom in seeking the advice of others.  There is wisdom in allowing certain people to come INTO our business.  Now, we all know that all advice is not good advice and that all advice does not have your very best interest at heart.  This is why I believe that the scripture tells us to seek the counsel of many, meaning a diverse group of people who may see your business from various perspectives and advise you accordingly which will help you to make plans that succeed and lead you to be victorious in different areas of your life.
BlogFam, I am not at all saying that you should just ask all sorts of random people for advice.  I suggest that your wise counsel should extend beyond one person and should include at least 3- 5 people who love God, love you, and who make godly choices themselves.  This team of advisers is called a Clearness Committee in the Quaker religious tradition.  I was introduced to this concept while reading a book by Parker Palmer.
From their beginnings over three hundred years ago, Quakers needed a way to draw on both inner and communal resources to deal with personal problems because they had no clerical leaders to "solve" their problems for them.  Behind the Clearness Committee is a simple but crucial conviction: each of us has an inner teacher, a voice of truth, that offers the guidance and power we need to deal with our problems. But that inner voice is often garbled by various kinds of inward and outward interference. The function of the Clearness Committee is not to give advice or"fix" people from the outside in but rather to help people remove the interference so that they can discover their own wisdom from the inside out.  If the spiritual discipline behind the Clearness Committee is understood and practiced, the process can become a way to renew community in our individualist times, a way to free people from their isolation without threatening their integrity, a way to counteract the excesses of technique in caring, a way to create space for the spirit to move among us with healing and with power.
BlogFam, who is on your Clearness Committee?  Who have you given permission to invade the home of your heart for the purpose of helping you to make wise decisions?  Who have you allowed to violate your privacy barriers in order to help you see victory in every area of your life?  Who would you include on your board of many advisers so that they can ask the right questions which will help to guide your decision making and help you to hear what the Holy Spirit may be trying to speak to you?
Again, our proverbial wisdom for today -
Proverbs15:22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.11:14 For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
Friends, if we were to take heed to these verses, I am sure that there are some decisions that we never would have made in our past and some choices we would have made already in our present.  On today, I challenge you to INVITE just a few people who love God, love you, and who make godly decisions into your business.  I challenge you to be a wise advisory to someone else. And most of all, I pray that as you handle your business moving forward, you would embrace the wisdom of these verses by actively and intentionally seeking wise counsel, so that you would succeed over and over again and that you would win many, many victories!
