HOME Healthcare of the Holy Spirit - John 14:26

John 14:26
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, willteach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
HOME Health Care of the Holy Spirit
BlogFam, my great-grandmother, whom we affectionately called “Grand-Mama,” passed away many years ago.  I was a child at the time of her passing; however, I do remember a few things.  I have fond memories of saying Easter speeches, Christmas speeches, and singing at her piano. I also remember stories that my grandfather has shared with his grandchildren about his mother, whom he loved so dearly.  As she aged, her health was failing and it did get to the point where she needed the daily assistance of a home health care professional.
I remember my great-grandmother’s home health care assistant.  I will call her Ms. C.  Now, Ms. C had a very pleasant and patient personality and because of the care she provided my great-grandmother, she became part of our family.  Ms. C was a regular at family gatherings, church services, and other places where she could assist my Grand-Mama.  I really did like Ms. C.  Her care and concern for my Grand-Mama was genuine and her connection to our family was long and even continued beyond the passing of my great-grandmother.  We grew to love Ms. C and though I have not seen her in a few years, I pray that she is reaping a bountiful harvest for the countless seeds of care and concern she showed to my Grand-Mama.
As we continue our HOME is Where Your Heart Is blog series, today I want you to open your minds to the ways that the Holy Spirit provides home health care to our hearts.  Now Ms. C’s presence was powerful but there is no presence as powerful or potent as the very presence of the Holy Spirit that comes to live inside of us.  Friends, I am in awe that our God would make the choice to live inside of our hearts. I am humbled that such a Holy presence would search for a home inside of my heart and then would care for the health of my heart in profoundly miraculous ways so that I can become more and more like Jesus.
I obviously was not there when Jesus walked the earth.  However, the portion of His life as recorded in the Gospels, is a lot to learn and to apply on a daily basis.  I am still learning so much about what He taught and I have been going to church my whole life.  Jesus knew he had a lot to say and do in his few years of ministry on earth.  I am confident that Jesus was clear that the message of His words and actions that would be recalled and recorded would be to the best of the human capacity of those whose writings we read today.  So with His statement in our verse today, he assures them, and us, that God’s presence in our lives would not end with His ascension. The Holy Spirit, whom the Father would send, would come to teach us and to remind us of the Gospel through the ministry of Jesus Christ.  In other words, Jesus lets us know that the Father, through the Holy Spirit will come to provide health care for our hearts.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
My sistas and brothas, according to the Medicare website – - Home health care is a wide range of health care services that can be given in your home. Home healthcare is usually less expensive, more convenient, and just as effective as care you get in a hospital or skilled nursing facility.
The goal of home health care is to treat an illness or injury. Home health care helps you get better, regain your independence, and become as self-sufficient as possible.
In general, home health care includes part-time or intermittent skilled nursing care, and other skilled care services like physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Services may also include medical social services or assistance from a home health aide. Usually, a home health care agency coordinates the services your doctor orders for you.
The Holy Spirit is our heart’s home health care professional sent by the Creator in heaven to provide the least expensive, most convenient, and supernaturally effective care our heart’s will ever receive. It is the least expensive because Jesus paid it all.  It is most convenient because the Spirit comes to live inside of us.  And it is supernaturally effective because not only is the Holy Spirit able to treat our illnesses or injuries, but the Holy Spirit has the power to transform our entire life.  As we yield to the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, we become better people who exhibit the fruit of the Spirit in all that we do and say. Unlike the stated goal of home health care on the Medicare website to help recipients of their care to gain independence and become as self-sufficient as possible, the more we adhere to the teachings of the Holy Spirit, we become more and more dependent upon the Supernatural power of the divine to control every aspect of our lives.  We become like little children who need their parents or guardians to do everything for them.
Just as the skillful assistance of a home health care staff person, similarly goes the care of the Holy Spirit except the Holy Spirit’s care is never-ending, unlike the part-time or intermittent care like the Ms. C’s we may know or may come to know.  The Holy Spirit is God with us in the most intimate ways – living and breathing inside of us in order to heal our sin-sick souls.  And if you just want to be clear about the status of your heart’s health, then allow the Holy Spirit to
  • Check your vital signs - blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, and breathing. Have you at least accepted Jesus as your Savior? Is your pulse controlled by the flow of the Holy Spirit?
  • Check that you are taking your prescription and other drugs and any treatments correctly, such as reading your bible and applying it to your daily life.
  • Ask if you’re having pain – Ask God to show you what may be ailing your relationship with Him.
  • Check what you are eating and drinking.
  • Check your safety in the home – Is there anything in your heart that is competing for control of your heart?
  • Teach you about your care – So that you will not be swayed by every wind and doctrine that would take you off the narrow way
  • Coordinate your care. This means you must communicate regularly with your Creator. PRAY about everything!
My sistas and brothas, Have you experienced the care of the Holy Spirit lately? Is your heart in need of care? Will you let the Spirit in and surrender to its power to teach and remind you of all things pertaining to your witness as a servant of the Most High? I want you to know that the Holy Spirit will provide the highest and best heart home health care you will ever receive and the only health plan you need has already been provided at Calvary.  Your premiums are covered by the blood and all you need to do is believe and confess that Jesus is Lord.
