As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
Pick Up the Line!
I have a home phone. I know that it is a rarity in this age of cell phones for people to actually still use landline phones. Well, I am one of those rare jewel customers of the phone company. I have a home phone BUT I do not answer my home phone. I rarely give out that number, if ever; so, if I do receive a call on that line, it will 98.99% be from a telemarketer or a political campaigner’s call list, though that statistic has not been appropriately verified. (LOL!)
I have a home phone. Over the decades the appearance of all telephones has changed dramatically and the capabilities of the home phone have expanded technologically. My home phone is cordless. I have two headsets in different parts of my house and it has a digital answering machine at the base which can be checked remotely from either headset.
I have a home phone. It does not bother me to have a home phone. When it rings, I hear it and I ignore it. I do not feel compelled to answer it for any reason. I already told you who calls me on that line 98.99% of the time and thus, I have no expectations to receive any calls from anyone who needs to get in touch with me on that line. If someone needs to reach me, they either already have my cell, email address, we are friends on FaceBook, connected on LinkedIn or they follow me on either one of my twitter accounts [@AudraSunshine or @SpiritedConcept].
Friends, Yes, I still have a home phone. I pay for that home phone every month, too. So whether I hear it ring and ignore a call, it demands my attention with that monthly bill. But I am pretty ok with that. I know that other options are available and to you, it may seem like a waste of money, but I like that my home phone and the number associated with it creates options for me that many people in this age of cell phones do not have, even if those options are minor and seemingly old fashioned.
I keep my home phone for two primary reasons. One, my particular alarm system is connected to my home phone; and two, I have the assurance of knowing that if anything ever happened to my cell, I still have another option to communicate telephonically.
I have a home phone. Do you have a home phone?
As I have already hinted, my home phone is more accustomed to receiving calls that I do not answer than it is to my initiating a call through its system. BUT when that monthly bill comes or when the phone rings after my alarm has gone off, my home phone demands my attention. I believe, my friends, that those of us who are connected to the Holy One have received many calls throughout our lives that we have ignored. There are certain experiences that have demanded that we give our attention to the calls of the Holy and we may or may not yield to that demand; but then there are times when we are thrown on our backs like Paul on the Damascus Road and we must answer the call because the alarm system has just gone off. We get so used to the daily calls of the Spirit awakening us up out of our physical sleep and giving us the energy to make it through another day. We get so used to that ring of life that we sometimes need a monthly reminder or even an extraordinary alarm system to go off to remind us who is still in control.
To be honest with you, I probably would not even know my home phone line would need servicing unless I really needed to use it because I have ignored the ring for so long, that I would welcome the silence and would not miss that ring if it did not occur. BlogFam, I pray that this is not the status of your relationship with God. I pray that you have not silenced the Holy for so long that you would not even know that His presence no longer persists. Unfortunately, God knows that but for a nudge to your knees or a major alarm in your life, you would be comfortable with the silence.
So, again I ask, do you have a home phone? Is your heart connected to the One who knows exactly what you need to hear at any given moment? OR Does your home phone line need to be serviced? Are you so used to ignoring God’s calls that the Lord has to allow certain things to happen just so He can hear from you? OR Is your line disconnected? Do you need to ask the divine operator to re-connect your heart to His line?
Friends, do you have a home phone? When is the last time you answered His call? Please rest assured, He already knows your number so just PICK UP THE LINE!!! And, like Paul, you will be told what you must do…
Black HistoryMonth - Quote of the Day
We did not hesitate to call our movement an army. But it was a special army, with no supplies but its sincerity, no uniform but its determination, no arsenal except its faith, no currency but its conscience. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
