Patience is OVERRATED! - James 5:10-12

Musical Term of the Day:
Fine[fee-ney] - The end.
James 5:10-12
BlogFam, Have you ever had a moment where you just totally felt like being patient was so overrated?  Now, don’t go get SUPER-Holy on me!  I am quite aware that patience is a fruit of the spirit.  I am also willing to admit that I have been the beneficiary of another’s patience on countless number of occasions.  I have even been patient with others.  I am not saying it is not virtuous.  I am not saying patience is not the right way to live.  I am not saying that patience is not a gift you should refrain from extending to others.  But, COME ON! My sistas and brothas, let’s keep it real!  Have you ever felt like you were tired of being patient?  Has the thought ever crossed your mind that you have been patient long enough?  Have you ever had a moment where you just totally felt like being patient was so overrated?
Well, let ME keep it real and answer the questions I have asked you. YES!  YES!  And YES again!  I have had moments when my patience with the ignorance or incompetence of others has worked my nerves.  I have had moments where my patience with my personal life situations made me just want to scream – WHATEVER!  I have also had moments when waiting on God just felt like it took the longest time for God to hear and respond to my effectual, fervent prayers which promise to avail much but that particular verse mentions nothing about waiting for that glorious end result.  I have had moments when I wanted to look the situation or circumstance in the eye and say “FINE!” to this measure on the music score of my life.  So, YES, I feel you! [And your secret is safe with me…and the good Lord of course (lol)]
Friends, PATIENCE is an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay.  While we may be able to grasp this intellectually, we might struggle with how to apply this socially, financially or even spiritually.  We are well aware that there are several instructions to us to be patient that can be found in the Word of God.  I would like to lift up one scripture in particular on today.
James 5:10-12 (KJV)
Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Now RE-READ this passage from The Message Bible…
James 5:10-12 (MSG)
Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You've heard, of course, of Job's staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That's because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.
And since you know that he cares, let your language show it. Don't add words like "I swear to God" to your own words. Don't show your impatience by concocting oaths to hurry up God. Just say yes or no. Just say what is true. That way, your language can't be used against you.
My friends, today we are reminded how important it is for us to remain PATIENT. We may not like what our delay has brought us but we are to remain PATIENT.  You may or may not have experienced the tremendous loss that Job went through. Job lost EVERYTHING including family, friends, finances, and his faith got a little shaky BUT in his FINE, the Lord greatly rewarded Job for suppressing his restlessness or annoyance with what God had allowed.
Being patient can be tough but like everything else, we must keep a godly perspective.  We must pray for the staying power of Job as we go and grow through whatever it is. We can be assured while we are waiting that God really does care about every little detail concerning our lives. And even when we are feeling like patience is overrated, KEEP HOLDING ON!  I like this quote [original source unknown]:
But to keep going when the going is hard and slow - that is patience.
BlogFam, the divine orchestration of the movements of our lives do not always privy us to smooth sailing.  So, we must KEEP HOLDING ON and trust that the original Composer is handling everything until the very end of this measure and to the very end of our life’s score.  Yes, we all at some point have felt or may feel that patience is so overrated but I hope that today you are reminded that by faith and with much prayer, the FINE will come and that FINE will be for our good. God WILL bring it all together for us in the end!
