#BestPractices: Eternal Investments

Greetings!

BlogFam -

I will be the first to admit that I barely know anything at all about money markets, stock markets, portfolios, dividends, split ends, IRAs, Life Insurance, Estate Planning, or the role of a Financial Broker.  I know enough to know that all of these things have something to do with how people use their money to prepare for their future or the future of their family but I do not know enough to advise you on any of it....except the split ends reference because that is all about hair and I thought it would be funny to just drop it in because it just fit in the rhythm of what I was saying  but absolutely has nothing to do with finances. LOL!  Anyway, I know that my randomness can be amusing at times... :-)  Moving on...

OK.  So, NO, I am not a financial expert in any of the above things I mentioned related to finance and yet, I do know that all of these things have an impact on the overall economy of this country in one way or another and vice versa.  I know that people have lost their jobs or picked up odd jobs when something in their finances is insufficient or inadequate, or unstable.  I know enough to know that the energy many place in securing these monetary investments can very easily supersede the energy given to the eternal investments of the heart and spirit.  Too often, we take for granted those intangible and often invisible matters of the heart and spirit that are the eternal investments that will not pass away.  Everything I do not understand about money really does not matter if my soul is lost. I wonder if those of you who are so invested in the things of this world, fortune and/or fame, have calculated the true cost of not storing for yourselves treasures in heaven.

Friends, I know that people do not like to talk about money for many reasons, not the least of which is talking about how it has been lost or how more can be made.  I know that many of you think that money talk is a private conversation that happens on a need to know basis and it is inappropriate to discuss it otherwise.  I get it.  I will not argue about it.  However, I will push you to consider or reconsider the talk about the value of the eternal investments that you have or have not made.  For the word of the Lord is true...

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. [Matthew 6:19-21]

A few months ago, my vehicle was broken into.  Whomever the thief was, he or she busted the passenger side window over the back seat and stole my red work bag which contained lots of new information from my new job as well as my personal calendar and tablet.  I was upset and I felt so violated and the irony is that I was parked on a church parking lot.  While I do remember how I felt and what they took, I have since replaced everything or re-purposed things I already owned and I did get my window fixed.  But I am clear that all of my material possessions that were either broken or stolen, fail in comparison to the treasures of love and forgiveness, prayers for mercy and protection that filled my heart for me and the thieves.  I was able to use my financial resources to do what I needed to do to move forward; but, more importantly,  I was able to also draw upon the eternal investments I had already stored up so that I did not get bitter or draw unnecessary conclusions, or what some might call reasonable given the circumstances, which might have kept me away from church or away from prayer, or away from people who supported me through this ordeal.

BlogFam, it is OK to be financially astute and secure, but it is more important to be eternally invested in the treasures of heaven.  I pray that this week you would consider or reconsider your investments of the heart and spirit.  I pray that your money matters are not more important than your spiritual ones.  AND I pray that you would be rich in Spirit and wise with your money and that you would trust GOD with it all!

Bod LOVES You and I DO Too!
Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!
