#BestPractices: Wash Your Face!

Greetings!

BlogFam,
There is NOTHING holy about crusty eyes and bad breath!
Yes!  I said it!  And I think it bears repeating...

There is NOTHING holy about crusty eyes and bad breath!
As children, one of the first things we are taught to take care of as it relates to our personal hygiene is to wash your face and brush your teeth.  Your face and your breath can leave positive and negative impressions on people.  So, while you may not be able to alter the characteristics of your face or teeth - though there are corrective and cosmetic surgeries that can do so - the least ALL of us can do is make sure our face is clean and our breath is fresh.  For I can promise you that there is no one on this earth who will think that you are closer to God because your face is dirty and your breath stinks.  I can almost guarantee you that if you do happen to think that you can ignore these two aspects of personal hygiene, there are at least TEN people who know you and are plotting to tell you how you need to get yourself together!  So, let me help you out... There is NOTHING holy about crusty eyes and bad breath!

Friends, while my opening comments may have caused you to snicker just a tad, I want you top know that there really is truth in my statements.  JESUS agrees with me... or maybe I should say, I agree with JESUS! LOL!

Check out these verses...

16 “And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and WASH YOUR FACE, 18 so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. [Matthew 6:16-18]

See!  I told you!  Even the Lord wants you to wash your face and brush your teeth... and I obviously added the brush your teeth part considering we do live in the 21st century and a tooth brush and toothpaste is available at your local convenience store...  But the point is this: There is NOTHING holy about crusty eyes and bad breath!

Friends, I do believe it is important for us to participate in the spiritual practice of fasting.  However, I do not have to know about every time you push your plate back or get off social media or deny yourself any other thing that you feel you need to announce because you want us to know you so holy.  Get over yourself and focus on JESUS!  You are not fasting for me to give you a pat on the back.  You are fasting in private so that when your heavenly Father sees you in secret, it is GOD who will reward you in God's own way.  But when you fast, I am so glad that Jesus said this... Put oil on your head and WASH YOUR FACE!  Do not neglect your personal grooming in order to prove that you are getting closer to God.  We are NOT impressed and most of all, God is not pleased if your declarations of fasting are for others to know that you are.  You have your reward.

So, BlogFam, let's take care of ourselves.  Put an effort in your personal hygiene.  Fast.  Pray.  Wash your face.  Brush your teeth. Add moisturizer and keep breath mints... AND do EVERYTHING else necessary for others to be inclined to pay attention to your witness.  I promise you... There is NOTHING holy about crusty eyes and bad breath!

GOD LOVES YOU and I DO TOO!
Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!
Delesslyn
