BlogFam, I pray that YOU are well! On this past Sunday, I, along with at least a few hundred other men and women, completed the My Vision Fast. [www.MyVisionFast.com] And I can say that it was a fruitful 21 day journey of fasting and praying, dreaming and activating, learning and encouraging, sharing and listening. Listening.
Yes, I know I just typed that same word three times.
Yes, I did so intentionally because this word is so very important.
Question. Who do YOU listen to the most?
I am reading the Book of Isaiah. I am taking my time and going with the flow. I have to admit that I was struck by the very first word of his prophecy. After a brief statement to establish the time frame in which he prophesied, he opens with ONE word... LISTEN!
LISTEN, heavens, and pay attention, earth, for the Lord has spoken:
Friends, I have listened to a lot of wisdom and I have listened to a lot of foolishness and I have even confused the two at times. But I do know that LISTENING is important. Listening is critical to discerning my destiny, determining my next step, deciding where I want to go and who I want to be. I cannot live my life without listening to others out of love or respect. Most of all, I cannot live my life without listening to God.
And this can be hard.
Listening for God's voice can be hard.
It can be challenging to be 100% sure that the voice you hear, the gut feeling you have, the impression in your spirit is definitely God speaking. I have gotten better as I have grown closer to the Lord, as I have read the Bible which I believe to be is God's Word, as I have prayed and worshiped God. I have gotten better but I know that I still have some growing edges as it relates to sharpening my ear to hear God speaking to me in whatever ways God chooses.
And God chooses many ways to speak to us. Are you listening? Or have you limited the ways in which God can speak to you to the point that you are dismissive of words of instruction, guidance, and direction simply because you did not like the vessel through which that word came, you were uncomfortable because the word convicted you, or maybe you just did not like the answer that God gave to you?
This is how the Prophet Isaiah opens his book of 66 chapters. Regardless of whether you believe he wrote the entire book or only a certain portion of it, I submit to you that the word LISTEN is obviously the FIRST word and probably one of the most important words in the entire book. As a prophet of the Most High, his mouth is the instrument God chooses to use and if people do not LISTEN, the prophetic words that he spoke to fill those 66 chapters would not even matter. And in your own life, what prophetic, life changing words have you missed because you were not listening to what thus saith the Lord?
Today, I pray that you would LISTEN. And LISTEN over and over and over again to the many ways that God chooses to speak to you [and through you]. LISTEN for the words of affirmation and the words of correction. LISTEN for the words of salvation and forgiveness. LISTEN for the words of hope and comfort. LISTEN for the words that will give you life and that life more abundantly. LISTEN. This is step one to knowing exactly what God would have for YOU to do.
GOD LOVES YOU and I DO TOO!
Blessings, Glory, and Sunshine!
