#ONEWord: REMEMBER

#ONEWord: REMEMBER

2 Kings 20:1-3
In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Greetings!

BlogFam,
REMEMBER.

To REMEMBER means: To recall to the mind by an act or effort of memory; To think of again; To have something come into the mind again.

REMEMBER.

I remember a lot of people, places, and things that I have encountered throughout my life.  I have memories of my childhood, my teenage years, my twenties, and now my thirties.  Most of those memories are pleasant and some of the things that come to mind again are painful.  I am sure that you can relate.  We all have memories that we recall from time to time or even everyday.  And those moments of remembrance might be sparked by a conversation, a song, a commercial on television, an outfit, a flower, a color, or any other random occurrence or intentional effort of memory.

And while we have been focused on our own memories,I wonder what others remember about us.  What would your childhood teachers or friends say that they remember about you?  What about your co-workers from that one summer job that you loved or hated?  What about the people in your ministry or community organization - what do they remember about you?  What does your family remember about your past?  Now, these would be some interesting conversations to have.

Some of you might come from a close knit family as I do and I can honestly tell you that the memories run long and deep.  We have laughed and cried about the things that we think of again when we come together or when we connect over a phone call.   These memories keep us connected, hold us accountable, inspire us, comfort us, teach us and challenge us to be better.  I believe that your memories and the memories of others about you can do the same.

But I do have one question and it comes from our scripture for today...  WHAT DOES GOD REMEMBER ABOUT YOU?  What would you say comes to our Creator's mind when it comes to your life and how you have chosen to live it?  Could you confidently pray the prayer of the King -

“Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.”

Are you/Have you been FAITHFUL and WHOLEHEARTED in your DEVOTION
and done what is GOOD in the eyes of the Lord?

This is a deep question.  And I invite you to answer it.... now.

It is a question that should make you stop for a second and at least check in with the Holy Spirit to see where you stand as it relates to your own life.  Are you faithful?  Are you wholeheartedly devoted to God?  Do you do GOOD in the eyes of God?

I will NOT attempt to answer these questions for you but I will strongly encourage you to take them seriously.  For the King prayed this one sentence prayer when he was facing death.  He asked the Lord to REMEMBER the life he had lived before him up until this point and in response to the King's request, the Lord remembered GOOD things and showed the King favor by extending his life.  And that is ALL good for the king but what about you and me?

Are you/Have you been FAITHFUL and WHOLEHEARTED in your DEVOTION and done what is GOOD in the eyes of the Lord so much so that the Lord would REVERSE death because of what you have asked the Lord to REMEMBER about your life?

This is a deep question.  And I invite you to answer it.... now.

Pause.  And pray about it...

GOD LOVES YOU and I DO TOO!
