Church Folks NEED Jesus Too!!! Luke 8:41-42a

Church  People NEED Jesus, Too!

Luke 8:41-42a
Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying

Greetings!

BlogFam,

I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people of all ages talk about how church folks are hypocrites.  I have heard this so many times and I cannot say that I do not know why they would say such a thing.  I do know why.  Church folks can be just as mean, manipulative, scared, selfish, hateful and whore mongering as the folks on the street.  And I guess I have in some ways felt that at least they are a little closer to the place where their hearts and their lives can be changed.  At least they are in church.  At least the church folks - and I do not understand that term to be restrictive to people who have accepted Jesus as their Savior - are inside the place where they can hear the prayers and the sermons and the songs that can touch their soul and heal them from the inside-out.  At least church folks are IN church.

Now, I do acknowledge that there is more to being a Christian and to living a life set apart to please God, than just simply going to church.  But going to church is definitely a GREAT start.  I think that in some ways, church folks are at least at the starting line to get in the race and press toward the mark of the higher calling of God in Christ Jesus.  And the hypocrisy, that is observed by those who are standing on the fringes, of the people inside the church that they criticize should not be so shocking especially when one considers the humanity of ALL of us.  Nobody is perfect but at least church folks are striving for something more, something more than this world can offer, something  that the world cannot give and that the world cannot take away!

Bottom Line:  Church folks NEED Jesus sometimes just as much and sometimes more than the folks looking from the outside - in.

For example, look at our verses for today.
Take note of the "church folks" or at least this one "church man."

Luke 8:41-42 NIV
Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying

Here we have read about one man, a church leader, who needed Jesus.  Most of us are familiar with the Bible stories in the Gospels that expose the hatred that church folks...the members and leaders of the local synagogue.... who were not supportive of Jesus ministry.  They were in church.  They were church folks.  They were church folks who did not know Jesus.  And I imagine Jairus was one of them.

But when he found he and his family in a desperate and deadly situation, he went outside the church walls to find a man who could possibly and probably give him the help he needed.  The church folks were not given voice in this passage but I imagine as a leader he knew that going to Jesus would stir all kinds of rumors and murmurings about his leadership in the church.  At the same time, his daughter was dying.

And what do you do when your son or your daughter is dying or your life is falling apart or when things are chaotic everywhere you turn?  What do YOU do?  Where do YOU go?  Who do YOU look to?  When things are desperate or deadly, I think we all can take on the role of hypocrites - inside and outside the church.  We all do things we have never done or said we would never do in order to get the kind of help we have never needed before. AND just like Jairus, we could care less about the rumors and the murmurings from people who could care less about us and who cannot even help us anyway!

This "church man" needed Jesus and he had to go outside the church in order to find him.  Now I could take a tangent right here and talk about how so many churches are missing the ONE they say they give all glory to... But for the sake of your time, let me suffice it to say this:

Church folks NEED Jesus sometimes just as much and sometimes more than the folks looking from the outside - in.  AND, like Jairus, sometimes church folks have to go outside to find Him.

Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying

BlogFam, are you part of the crowd INSIDE the church who needs Jesus?  OR are you part of the crowd OUTSIDE the church who needs Jesus?

Church folks NEED Jesus and that is OK.  I just pray that when you meet Him, inside or outside, I pray that you will fall at His feet and ask Him to come to your house and live inside your heart.
