Lord, I Do NOT Have It All!
The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”
“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”
The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”
GOD is with You!!! I know that you are probably thinking, well, Delesslyn, I kind of know that already. But, do you really? I make this statement and ask this question because there are so many of us who do not walk or talk as if the Lord is already on our side! We walk with our heads down and we speak words of defeat and we do not act like GOD IS ALREADY HERE! Friends, why is this?
I can only imagine the responses to my question that are running through your head and I know they run the gamut. However,I know one reply to that question is found in our text on today. As we learned in our previous post, Gideon has been called a MIGHTY WARRIOR by the Lord’s messenger and then the Lord tells Gideon to GO FORTH in the strength that He has from the Lord. And as the conversation continues, his excuse NOT to GO FORTH shifts from the Lord’s abandonment to his personal feelings of inadequacy.
“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? MY clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in MY family.”
Gideon basically says, Lord, I DO NOT HAVE IT ALL!!!
I say WOW! Because I know so many people who feel the exact same way. It is not like you do not know what to do or how to do it but when you look in the mirror, you really do NOT see yourself as the Lord sees you. The Lord is calling forth greatness out of Gideon and Gideon is speaking words of defeat based on some standard that he has in his mind that is contrary to what the Lord has on the Lord’s mind!
Friends, why do YOU deny the GREATNESS inside of YOU? Gideon’s excuse to NOT be all that the Lord was calling for him to me in that moment was because of his family and because of the way he saw himself. He calls his family/clan weak. He calls himself the least. And just in case you were wondering words such as weak or least are not great words to use if you want give yourself a pep talk!
Perhaps, the hesitancy that you have experienced in moving forward in your own life is because you have chosen to respond just as Gideon in Judges 6 –
“Excuse me Lord, BUT do you know who you are talking to? I DO NOT HAVE IT ALL TOGETHER! I do not have the most prominent family and I am not the most celebrated kind of man/woman! I do NOT think you want to use me for this assignment.”
But THANKFULLY, in the wisdom of the Lord, there are moments when the Lord ignores our excuses and our defeatist talk or NEGA-speech and says,
“My child, it is NOT about YOU. But it is all about what I, the Lord your God, wants to do through you.”
In other words, as the Lord told Gideon,
“I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites,
leaving none alive.”
BlogFam,GOD IS WITH YOU! And it is GOD who will work through you to accomplish God’s will in the earth! It is indeed an honor and a privilege to be chosen and to be used by God in whatever capacity the Almighty chooses. I am so glad that there are countless times when the Lord will ignore our excuses and empower us - anyway - to serve at higher levels for the sake of the Kingdom. STOP making excuses based on your family or the way you see yourself. STOP making excuses based on your choice of friends and associates. STOP making excuses based on what you have or do not have OR based on how you look/speak/laugh/dress and whatever else you might see as a flaw in your own eyes!
BlogFam, GOD IS WITH YOU! And God is calling forth GREATNESS out of YOU!
