You are NOT the FIRST or the ONLY One!!! Matthew 5:11-12

How Well Do You Know Jesus? Part 2 -
You are NOT the FIRST or the ONLY One!!!
Matthew 5: 11-12
11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
GREETINGS!
BlogFam,Have you ever had an experience where you were the FIRST and the ONLY person to experience, go through, achieve, endure, overcome, initiate, or control something?  Maybe you were the first person to do X or the only person at the time to do Y or the FIRST and the ONLY person to do Z.  Has this ever been your testimony?  Obviously, you could have been the first and/or the only person to do whatever you did and whatever you did could have been negative or positive or maybe no one even noticed.  What are some first and only situations in YOUR life?
I have had some FIRST Situations.  I am the FIRSTborn child and daughter of my parents. I have had some ONLY situations. I am the ONLY female in my immediate and extended family who has Sisterlocks.  I have also had some FIRST and ONLY situations in my life.  I am the FIRST and ONLY person I know who has a blog entitled SALVATION & STILETTOS!(Thanks for reading and sharing!)  Again,BlogFam, what are some first and only situations in YOUR life?
These situations may have been very profound moments in your life or maybe they are moments that you have pretty much overlooked until now.  Either way, I believe that all of us have had these kinds of moments.  And it does not matter whether these moments have had major, minor, or seemingly no impact upon the course of our lives, I still believe that we have all been the FIRST and the ONLY at one point or another, good or bad.
Now,I will admit to you that I am so glad that I am not the FIRST or the ONLY in certain situations or circumstances.  I say that because it is good to be able to learn from the experiences of others.  It is good to be able to be mentored by men and women who have gone through exactly what you have been going through.  It is a good feeling to know that you are not alone and that someone else has already paved the way so that you can now benefit from or maybe even avoid some of the details of their testimony.
Now,as we turn our attention to our text on today, ALL who will read this post, including me, the author/blogger who wrote this post, will never have the testimony of being the FIRST and ONLY Christians that have ever lived.  We are NOT the first people to believe in God or to experience the presence of God manifest in our lives.  There have been a countless number of generations of believers in God and followers of Christ that have existed thousands of years before you and me. Jesus emphasizes this truth in the latter part of our verses for today when he says:
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were BEFORE you.
As I stated in my previous post, I really do appreciate how Jesus does not sugarcoat the realities of discipleship. Jesus knows that this road will NOT be easy and while He knows we can make it because He is always with us, He also knows that we can make it because others have already been there, done that, and are now resting in glory.
Taking a stand for Christ in this world is not always the easy or most popular thing to do and a very likely part of ALL of our journey will be moments when we do NOT feel like rejoicing and being glad. There will be moments where we will have to push ourselves to keep praying and keep praising and keep serving until our change comes.  There will be times when you just want to take a break and walk on the dark side of life because it just feels so hard to walk in the light.  There will be times when you want to say, “Jesus, YOU can have all of this.” “Church, it does not take all of that.”  And “Saints, get over yourselves!”  These moments will come most especially “when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me/Jesus.” You will have moments when you will ask yourself – How well do I really want to know Jesus?  And is all of the stuff I am going through right now even worth it?
And, on today, I pray that you will answer both questions in the affirmative.  I pray that you will continue to get to know Jesus in spite of what you are going through and that you are encouraged to know the promise of this final Beatitude:
11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
BlogFam,I admit that I really do wish we could AVOID all of the insults, persecution, and lies that we will endure as believers. Heaven is a great reward but when you are going through trials and tribulations, heaven just seems soooooooo very far away!  BUT on today, Jesus says that when we endure the trials and tribulations of our lives, when we live through the insults, persecution, and lies because of HIM, we are blessed.  And He tells us to take on a new perspective in these situations. A hopeful and positive perspective that will lead us to rejoice and be glad in spite of all that we must endure because of HIM.  AND in the end, he says, YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST AND THE ONLY ONE TO GO THROUGH ROUGH TIMES BECAUSE OF ME!!!  In the same way that you are presently feeling the painful attacks of others because of your faith, so did others who were BEFORE you.
Friends,I know that this is probably NOT what you wanted to hear but even Jesus tells us that this Christian life can get messy. We are not given permission to be messy but this life can get messy because of our witness in the earth on behalf of Jesus.  So, Jesus lets us know  about this messiness in advance.  He encourages us to rejoice and be glad.  He gives us the hope of a great reward in heaven.  And Jesus tells us that so many men and women BEFORE us have made it and so can we.
11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

GOD LOVES YOU AND I DO TOO!!!

Blessings,

Delesslyn
