God is Loving & Faithful, Even When We Are Not!

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

Greetings!

BlogFam, I pray that this season of fasting is proving to be everything you thought it would be and more.  I pray that you are standing firm on your commitment and if you have moments where you missed the mark, I hope that you have not allowed that moment to paralyze you.  Pray, repent, and keep on walking!

I am sure that this is not the first time you have found yourself at the place of compromise on a spiritual, social, financial, or personal commitment that you have made.  It is not the first time that you have felt like you have let yourself down at the thought of neglecting your commitment or at the actual follow through on such thought.  Now we all may have different responses to these types of moments along our journey.  Some of us may get down.  Some of us get upset.  Some of us get back on track.  Some of us give up altogether.  No matter where you may find yourself, I pray that today, you would make up in your mind to stand on the word of the Lord that in our weakness, we are strong because of who God is inside of us!

Thus, our GREAT HOPE is that when we experience such moments in our lives – the thought or the follow through on the thought of non-commitment – we can Know therefore that the LORD our God is God; God is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love God and keep God’s commandments

THIS is our GREAT HOPE!  Our hope is not of our own power, strength, or determination.  The source of our hope must come from beyond us to be found in the faithfulness of our God.  God is God and God is FAITHFUL!  Great is the faithfulness of our God!  There is NO shadow of turning with Thee!  This is so far beyond our imagination.  It is hard for us to conceive the truth that God is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore.  It is hard for us to conceive because we are NOT the same from yesterday to today and I do not even need to mention forevermore.  Our own thoughts and the follow through on such thoughts that keep us from being faithful to the commitments we have made hinder our comprehension of God’s faithfulness.  This is also why we do not understand the magnitude of the love of God that has been maintained for a thousand generations to those who love God and keep God’s commandments.  We like who we like and love who we love and the vast expanse of the love of God for the whole world just seems overwhelming and unrealistic.  So, we pick and we choose when we are faithful and who will be the recipients of our love.  In other words, when we are not faithful or loving, it is NOT because God has not been faithful or loving to us.  It is because we have made the choice to not allow the same faithfulness and love that God has extended toward us to flow through us in our commitments to ourselves and to others.

So, my friends, how do we begin to incorporate this truth into our lives?  How do we begin to move forward as men and women who reflect the faithfulness and love of the Almighty God?  Well, first, I want to suggest that we must acknowledge that God is God.  The magnificence of God’s love and faithfulness is unattainable.  I do not make this statement in order to discourage you but rather I say this in order to motivate you, to inspire you toward a higher way of life. God’s love and faithfulness should inspire us to strive to possess the same characteristics that have dictated the way in which our God has interacted with us. God loves us and God is faithful toward us.  In response to this, we must love and be faithful to God, first and then to ourselves and others.  In other words, all of our thoughts and the actions that flow from our thoughts should be a response to God out of our thanksgiving for the love and faithfulness that God has shown toward us.

My sistas and brothas, when we find ourselves having thoughts and/or actions that reflect our lack of commitment to ourselves and to others, then it is quite possible that this is also a clue about our lack of love and faithfulness to our God.  It is our love and faithfulness to our God, FIRST, that empowers us to keep our commitments in other areas of our lives; for even when we fall short, our God is still loving and faithful to forgive us, to restore us, to strengthen us, to re-direct us.

BlogFam, as we move forward past those moments of weakness, let us re-commit ourselves to being faithful and loving toward God, FIRST and then GOD will strengthen us to remain committed to this fast and to however else we may be called to serve in times to come.

God Loves You and I do too!
