Your Unpredictable Next Season - Joshua 1:1-5

Your Unpredictable Next Season

Joshua 1:1-6
After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

Greetings!

BlogFam, there are a lot of things I know.  There are a lot of things that I do not know.  I know when it looks like it is going to be a pretty day.  However, I do not know how to forecast that elementary prediction via scientific calculations.  I know when it looks like it is going to be a rainy and gloomy day.  However, again, I do not know how to forecast that elementary prediction via scientific calculations.  There are a lot of things I know.  There are a lot of things that I do not know.

Today, I was thinking about my life not even ten years ago.  At that time, there were a lot of things I knew, but so much more that I did not know.  It is true that we often make decisions based on the best information, wisest counsel, sincerest prayers that we have at the time.  There are plenty of times where you will not see the whole picture – and I might even suggest that you never see the whole picture and how your decisions at the time will effect your life not even ten years – ten months – ten weeks – or ten days later.  We cannot always accurately predict with exactitude the seasons of our lives.  We must walk by faith, believing that somehow, someway, ALL things really will work together for our good.

BlogFam, I want you to know that you have NO idea the far reaching impact your fasting in this season will have on your life and on the lives of those around you.  You really have no clue and yet by faith, you have embarked upon this journey.  Just like I cannot scientifically predict the natural weather – rain, snow, sleet, hail, clear skies, sunny days, or chilly nights – I humbly admit that I cannot always predict with exactitude the spiritual forecast of the divine moves of God in my life.  Sometimes, the best I can do is simply walk by faith and not by sight – or feelings.

When the time had come for Joshua to take the lead, after the death of Moses, there was no way for him to predict with spot on accuracy everything he would face that we read about in the chapters to come.  However, what he did have, as one of His most powerful weapons and unlimited sources of inner strength was A WORD FROM THE LORD.  I can only imagine the thoughts that ran through Joshua’s mind when the weather forecast of his life shifted and it was now time for him to lead beyond the places his mentor had been.  Moses was a great leader and I am sure that Joshua learned so much from Moses that is not even recorded in the text, but Moses had never led these people into the Promised Land.

BlogFam, as we continue during this season of fasting, our God is preparing you in ways that you cannot even see.  And the lessons you are learning now, may not even be tested and tried until the season changes and certain people are gone and certain situations just are not the same as they were.  However, I want to encourage you to not get anxious, but BE STRONG and COURAGEOUS!  No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As God was with Moses, Joshua, your mentors, your pastor, your parents, or anyone else you might look up to and respect, so God will be with you.  Our God will never leave you nor forsake you.

Not long ago, Marvin Sapp released a song entitled, “He Has His Hands On You.”  The lyrics embody our thoughts and scripture for today:

Well, my sistas and brothas, today, I pray that you would know that God has His hands on YOU!  I pray that as you press on through this time of fasting, that you would trust God for what you see and for the things you cannot see.  And though you cannot predict your next move beyond this season in your life, I pray that you would be faithful and focused on what God has called for you to do in this season.  I pray that when it is time for you to shift, you will go into your Promised Land knowing that just as God was with you yesterday, God will be with you in your tomorrow.  I pray that you would be strong and courageous, confidently pursuing all that God has set before you because the Lord God has said that no one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life.  I pray that you would take one step forward day by day for the Lord God will give you every place that you set your foot.  IN THE NAME OF THE ONE WHO WILL NEVER LEAVE  NOR FORSAKE…
