A Prayer for HOLY REST - Psalm 116:7-8

A Prayer for HOLY REST
By Delesslyn A. Kennebrew

Greetings!

Musical Term of the Day:
Grand Pause- A rest for the entire ensemble.

Psalm116:7-8
Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

Let us pray…

GREAT DAY to You Holy Spirit!

First we want to THANK YOU for Your presence in our lives and we want to thank You that You are so gracious and so kind.  We acknowledge You as the ONE who is above all things and by whom all things are created and persist.  THANK YOU Lord God on today for the gift of rest You choose to give our minds, our bodies, and our souls.  And in this moment, Lord, we pray for rest.

Rest is the refreshing quiet or repose of sleep. Lord, we pray for rest.  Rest is the refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor.  Lord, we pray for rest.  Rest is the relief or freedom, especially from anything that wearies, troubles, or disturbs.  Lord, we pray for rest. Rest is a period or interval of inactivity, repose, solitude, or tranquility.  Lord, we pray for rest.  Rest is mental or spiritual calm.  Lord, we pray for rest.

Lord, Your kind of rest is the GRAND PAUSE on the music score of our lives that comes to renew, refresh and revive us.  Lord, we thank you for the courage to pause and give everything to You.  We thank You that we do not have to be ashamed of the rest that You give to us.  We thank You that we are wise enough to know that there are times when things in our lives are on pause on purpose.  We thank you that you are letting us take a much needed breath from the stress and the strains of this life. Lord, may we not be critical of those who choose to rest in You.  May we not condemn those who take advantage of the Grand Pause You have given to them which allows them to recuperate so that the entire ensemble of their mind, body and soul can be healed.

Lord, we thank You that Your rest is supernatural and that Your rest prepares us and propels us to receive the bountiful blessings of glory which abound in You.  We thank You that Your kind of rest delivers our souls from death, dries our eyes from tears, and keeps our feet from falling.  Lord, help us to return unto thy rest.  Give us a greater appreciation for the Grand Pauses that You orchestrate into our lives.  May we humbly submit to them and be transformed by those Holy moments when things are still.  Lord, help us return unto thy rest.  Restore unto us the joy of our salvation, the passion for the Gospel’s proclamation, and the hope of eternal transformation.  Lord, help us return unto thy rest. And when we experience the devastation of our faith, the temptation to go astray, or the reservation to obey, may we be reminded that our rest was not meant for our regression but for our progression in the service of Your kingdom.  Lord, help us return unto thy rest.  And when we observe the hunger – poverty –abuse – violence – widows - and orphans in this world, may we come forth out of our rest  ready to disturb the rest of those who sit in complacency because they have rested too long.  Lord, help us return unto thy rest.

Lord, we pray for rest on this day and in the days to come.  Yes, Lord, we pray for rest and we thank you in advance for making us to lie down in green pastures, for leading us besides still waters, and for restoring our souls with Holy Rest.  This is our prayer for all who stand in need of Your rest,  IN THE NAME OF THE ONE IN WHOM WE FIND REST, Amen.
