Identity of PECULIARITY - Exodus 19:1-8

Greetings!

Musical Term:
barocco - eccentric, bizarre, peculiar

 Exodus 19: 1-8
In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

BlogFam, I admit that I have a different kind of personality.  According to Meyers-Briggs Personality Test, I am type ENFJ.  These letters breakdown to: Extraverted –Intuitive – Feeling – Judging.  According to the analysis, that followed this determination, I have an Idealist Teacher personality that can only be found in 2% of the nation’s population.  “Teachers have a natural talent for leading students or trainees toward learning,…they are capable of calling forth each learner’s potentials….But perhaps their greatest strength lies in their belief in their students.”  A few famous ENFJ personalities include U.S. President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Ben Affleck, Kirstie Alley, Michael Jordan, and Diane Sawyer. [I encourage you to take this online version of the Meyers-Briggs Personality Assessment so that you can get to know yourself better. The link is at the end of this post so just keep reading for now. (lol) Thanks!]

After I took the test, I did begin to read more about what it meant for my personality to be assessed as ENFJ.  I did my own research so that I could get to know me better from a somewhat objective perspective.  I know me, but I was intrigued by what the results of my test had to say about me. I wanted to educate myself about myself so that I could become a better me by focusing on my strengths and having a keen awareness of what might not come as easily for me.  I do think that these types of tests are helpful for us to learn about our individual personalities and to thereby celebrate the intricacies of such that make us so unique.  And as a person of faith, I am also clear that from my mother’s womb God had already ordained for me to possess the personality type of ENFJ and God chooses to work through my ENFJ personality to advance the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. The same is true for you.

All too often we focus on the things – particularly our personalities - that divide us.  Yet, there is divine purpose in difference.  There is divine purpose in the plethora of personalities that we find in the world and in the Body of Christ.  Thus, it is to your advantage to get to know you better and as you grow to appreciate the barocco rhythm and sounds of your own personality, you will also celebrate what others can bring to your life because of theirs.

This is the beauty of having a godly perspective.  A godly perspective of personalities dictates that we honor the seemingly eccentric or bizarre traits of others.  In other words, we LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS AS WE LOVE OURSELVES. This is not just a godly perspective but this commandment is a godly directive that we are to OBEY.  When we OBEY God’s directives we will take on an identity of peculiarity that the world will never understand until they, too, surrender to God’s way of being and doing and seeing.

My friends, Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a PECULIAR TREASURE unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.

We are born with a certain type of personality that can be shaped by many factors because of life experiences.  However, I challenge you on today to surrender your personality to God. Submit to the divine authority you sense inside of you and allow God’s light to shine through your personality. When you do this, you SHALL be a PECULIAR TREASURE.  In other words, as you seek to make a joyful noise unto the Lord through your personality, your life’s music will have a barocco ring.  But BE ENCOURAGED!  God designed it this way.  Some will hear your godly song and will call you eccentric or bizarre simply because you give thanks in everything or you turn the other cheek or you forgive or because you really do love your enemies.  That is strange.  That is different.  This is who we are as people of faith.  We are marked by the Spirit of God and we now have an identity of peculiarity.

So, on today, BlogFam, I pray that you would not be ashamed of the PECULIAR TREASURE God has created you to be.  I pray that you will hear God’s voice and obey God’s words to you.  I pray that you would agree with God and allow our God to shine His Holy Light through your personality as a witness to the nations. I pray that when others hear the barocco sound of your witness, you will readily give the answer, “I follow the divine orchestration of the Most High and he renders my life’s song beautiful. Will you follow Him with me?”
