A few years ago, the phrase “Got Milk?” became very popular through a multimedia ad campaign. The campaign was an effort to get people to drink milk because of its benefits for the physical body. In those ads, the celebrities and/or models would have a white rim above the top of their upper lip to give the illusion of evidence that they had been drinking the milk that we needed to be drinking. And the simple caption was“Got Milk?”
Well, of course, due to its popularity, others began to use the “Got ___________?” phrase for their own benefit. As a witnessing opportunity, Christian publishing companies, churches, and other like-minded groups added a faith twist to the phrase. The phrase was not “Got Milk?” BUT “Got Jesus?” This campaign was an effort to get people to think about the state of their spiritual health. Clever. Clean. And Simple. Today, I want to add my own twist as we continue our GAIN SOME WAIT Series. BlogFam, “Got Wait?”
I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,
LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.
Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
And now, Lord, what WAIT I for? My HOPE is in thee.
The writer of Psalm 39 seems to be disturbed. Whatever his issue is in this Psalm, it has NOT yet been resolved. This writing indicates that he seems to be doing his very best to stay on the straight and narrow path while he waits for God to move on his behalf. He wants to have the right thoughts, emotions, words, and deeds so that he will not have to endure the consequences of failing to be faithful at this particular time. Yet, in the middle of the Psalm, he asks a strange question – And now, Lord, what WAIT I for?
This is such a strange place to be. It is strange to be in a season on your journey where you are waiting BUT you really do NOT know what you are waiting for. And now, Lord, what WAIT I for? Lord, what in the world am I WAITING for? What is it that I need to be preparing to receive? What is truly worth this WAIT? Well, BlogFam, I have no idea what YOU may be waiting for – a promotion, a financial breakthrough, a spouse, birth of a baby, your next meal, the repo man. I have no clue what YOU may be waiting for AND for some of you, YOU have no clue WHAT you are waiting for. You just know that you are waiting for something - something that the Lord has promised you, something that you just know by faith that the Lord is going to do, something that escapes your most vivid imagination. For some of us, we are waiting and in this WAIT, the best response we can offer is the one the Psalmist shares with us – MY HOPE IS IN THEE. Clever. Clean. And Simple.
Ladies and Gents, your WAIT is here. Got WAIT? Today, I pray that you can answer YES, I got wait! Well, what kind of WAIT do YOU have? I got wait that is grounded in the HOPE that my God will supply all my needs according to His riches in glory. I got wait that is grounded in the HOPE that God has plans for me to prosper and to be in good health even as my soul prospers. I got wait that is grounded in the HOPE that there is nothing that can separate me from the love of God. I have no idea what you may be waiting for and perhaps, neither do you BUT I pray that you have Got A WAIT that is sustained by the HOPE that God will answer your prayers.
